Gurushetram – 24 Hours of Anger

18 Mar

I was watching TV last evening when I caught an interview with the Cast of Singapore’s local movie “Gurushetram.”

Gurushetram – 24 Hours of Anger is jointly produced by Singapore Film Commission and Blue River Pictures, a Singaporean Production Company. The film is directed by TT Dhavamanni.

This is the FIRST time a Tamil movie is made in Singapore. I think this is a remarkable growth in our media industry and I’m honestly very proud of everyone involved! I’m sure it isn’t easy to make a movie in Singapore as the first time to anything in Singapore isn’t easy…

I’m very sure that this movie wouldn’t fail to meet our expectations.

I humbly ask everyone to give your support to this local movie. Please watch it the theatre and show your support to this team! They sure deserve it after all the hard work and efforts put it. I’m sure we all will love more local movies, and for them to believe in it, we have to support them.

Hello Budak Kampung Tak Tau English. Certain Chapters was more of a short movie. (About 30mins) This is the first Tamil “normal length’ movie. (If that made sense, haha.)

Hi, I am a Singaporean living in Perth at the moment. I am studying a film Productions and Directorship. I am really happy to see a Tamil film to be made in Spore. But I have my concerned.
Why do they have to follow a tamil movie style? Look at Hirithik Roshan or Shahruk Khan. Do they have to workout, Do they have to have six pack? – No. But they really do take care of their body cos they want to give back to the fans who watch their movies. Ya, Ya – someone might say- you can’t compare with that I kind of hero. Nonsense – we pay the same amount of money for the ticket, same amount of our time from our life, most of all they are in same industry – acting. Only typical Tamil actors will say – “I am the son of a famous Thadikaran. I don’t have to worked hard, I just be myself, flabby(as Prabhu) and it is the fans headline to watch me. Come on please put some effort, you are acting as a hero not zero. Work hard a bit. And Hero had already had connection as he was with Mediacorp. And he should know that he gonna be Hero in this movie. He never bother to learn from the Hindi Indian Actors. As for me I am writing a script at the momment to merge Australia and India films. I am now negotiating with some major film studios from America. We need to change the typical Tamil concept. Then there will be another Nayagan in Times Top 100 favourite movie of all time.

  10. Grace April 12, 2010 at 1:58 am #

Pann, what exactly is your point here? That the hero (Vishnu) didn’t sport a six-pack like Hrithik Roshan or Sharukh Khan? That doesn’t even make sense. Why are you comparing the FIRST local production with some Bollywood standard?

This wasn’t some super-hero movie to start with. So why the need of flaunting muscles?

You critisize efforts by saying typical and all that, but your expectations that hero must look built up and all just makes me think that you’re typical yourself. Sorry to be crude, I’m just being honest.

I’ve seen crappy Bollywood movies which were made just for pure entertainment. (Love stories with dance, dance and just dance) I personally felt that Gurushetram did better then that. Atleast they had a good storyline. I’m not saying it was perfect, but it was GREAT effort for a first timer.

Learn to appreciate. Don’t just look at flaws and find opportunities to slam efforts.

And FINALLY. Before you start making movies with the help of America, please do brush up on your English.

  11. Pann April 12, 2010 at 2:22 am #

Hi Grace, Thanks for your comment and I need to see for my English class. We are living in Facebook and MSN slang world. If I need to be good with English, then I need to sent you my sript to be checked.
It is not the six pack. Even you will be happier to be beside Vijay, Vishal and Suria rather than Prabhu, vadivel or Prabhu. This is the world we live in. Look at facebook or around you, how spore had changed and not the mentality of your type of Indian. Sorry to be crude, I’m just being honest.
Learn to appreciate. Look at small terrorist by Ashvin Kumar (anyway Oscar Nominated). That is what I called learning to to appreciate.
Vishu don’t need six pack, but some effort to show that he tried his best in all area.
Sorry to say this – I think you are in a small country with a blinkers on. Open up. Don’t be typical Indian – want to be with Westerner, Talk like a westerner, Drink like a Westerner(Jeans club) but don’t want to be a hard workin western actors, but want to be an actor.
The movie is a good effort but you can’t be blind to everything. We need to reach to more variety of people. That is what Rajiv Chandrasekhar had done. (I’m very sure who the Rajiv is…, he stories is done Hollywood by Matt Damon(hope you know who is that).
Thank you very much English Teacher.

  12. Pann April 12, 2010 at 2:25 am #

The last sentences was deliberately made with mistakes so please correct my English, Teacher Grace.

  13. Budak Kampung Tak Tau English April 12, 2010 at 2:09 pm #

Grace : Guess you really need to provide English classes for this American-Indian collaboration script writer :D I have tried my best to understand his point over here, but it’s a failure because IT IS THAT ATROCIOUS!! :S

Quoting Pann ” We are living in Facebook and MSN slang world” –> Does that mean you need to write and talk in such a bad command of English man? :S

Quoting Pann again ” Vishu don’t need six pack, but some effort to show that he tried his best in all area ” –> You should have shown some effort in using MS Word dictionary to correct your sentences’ :) .

Quoting Pann ( again!! duhh :S ) ” Sorry to say this – I think you are in a small country with a blinkers on ” –> You came exactly from the same country dude :) Do not, let me repeat that, DO NOT FORGET YOUR PAST AND YOUR NATIVE LAND!!

To round it up all, I think you are lame enough dude :) But I seriously have 1 question that makes my brain so confused : How the hell they let you to write a script that merges Australian and Indian films together ? And you are now negotiating with some major film studios from America? You must be kidding :D I mean, yeah, you are funny man :D

Thanks 4 making me kidney laugh, me very the happy :P

The last sentences in this line was purposely copied from Pann cause I very the understand his English, so please correct my English also, Teacher Grace :P Thank you

  14. Callahan April 12, 2010 at 6:18 pm #

Hi every1. I have been observing this page from yesterday. I noticed something strange.
Sorry I need to do write in point form as I have noticed Sporean can’t understand normal English. They speak broken singlish but expect good written English. Esp.- Budak Kampung Tak Tau English his name seems idiotic but wants good english. I am very sure he do not know who Ashvin Kumar or Rajiv Chandrasekhar might be. Because he did not get what writer Pann is talking about. He is condeming his English. After living in Spore for 6 years, I found that Sporean, more often Indians (such as Budak Kampung Tak Tau English) miss out what outsiders are trying to say. I think Budak Kampung Tak Tau English must be a fat Indian who trying to woo the girls from this website

1)In first place, Viji, Eswary, Vani and Grace were wondering whether the Hero is single. This shows that they were attracted to his look rather his acting. But when witer Pann says about looks, everyone talks about “effort”. Two-sided people!!!

2)Budak Kampung Tak Tau English please talk about the point Pann trying to say. You are such an loserand I think you are a normal jealous Indian.

    3) Grace- The movie is not about Super hero. I think the movie is about Gangsters. What you are trying to say is that Gangsters do not have to be fit and strong looking? Have you seen Election 1 & 2? It is a Cantonese movie about Gangsters. All the heroes in the movie are fit and strong.
3)Ask one of your friend who might be a Malay girl – Which movie does she prefer to watch, a bad Hindi movie acted by Shahruk Khan or a hit movie call Gurushetram acting Vishnu. I don’t even have to tell you the answer. I think that is what Pann is trying to tell, when he said be open.

    4) Lastly Budak Kampung Tak Tau English must be a poofter. Hope he knows what that means…

    Thank you.

  15. Budak Kampung Tak Tau English April 12, 2010 at 6:52 pm #

Quoting Callahan : “Sorry I need to do write in point form as I have noticed Sporean can’t understand normal English.” I have noticed YOU do not understand basic grammars as well :) What a dumbhead :D

I guess I gotta fire you thru as well as I really feel you are in the same dummkopf league as Pann is :) Fat Indian trying to woo girls ? Damn, I am so amused. So amused that my tiny cells are laughing too :)

Normal jealous Indian ? What do I get by being a jealous person here ? :) Do I get to bang you? NO..Would I be getting half of your useless brain ? NO..Would I be banging your chick in return of being jealous ? NO…

And you really think I’m a gay like you ? :)

N fyi , to be bluntly addressing me as a S’porean is so stupid of you, that I pity your parents for having to face a horrendous time in raising such a brain-dead son, which I clearly doubt whether you are a son, daughter or Kathoey :)

  16. Grace April 12, 2010 at 6:53 pm #

My dear Callahan, my friend Viji was trying to be funny when she asked if Vishnu was single, and I was replying to her that she can just add him in FB to find out. I personally don’t give a damn if he’s attached/married/divorced. Cos that doesn’t matter to me in any way. Can you please point out on when did I actually sound interested in his maritial status?

And Gangsters don’t necessarily need to be built up. If a movie producer wants his actors to be built up or scrawny, that’s entirely up to him. Who are we to poke our noses to see and critisize the movie or actors?

And the Malay girl thingy. Malay girls go gaga over Sharukh. Everyone knows that. Obviously they’ll choose Sharukh. So what exactly is your point here?

BE ORIGINAL. Just because one does something one way, doesn’t mean we have to follow that exactly. I still don’t understand why are we having this immaterial debate here.

But one thing is clear – Callahan must be a good friend or relative of Pann. Or maybe it’s Pann in disguise.

To both of you, I don’t have anything personal against you. But don’t take this chance and try to pick faults with any of my friends. That, I won’t tolerate.

    Thank you.

  17. Budak Kampung Tak Tau English April 13, 2010 at 10:59 am #

    Thank you Grace :)

  18. Grace April 13, 2010 at 11:49 pm #

    No worries BKTTE! 8)

  19. Meena April 14, 2010 at 1:49 am #

    Hello ppl,

Well, I was reading the comments in this page and am utterly flabbergasted. This page was supposed to be about Gurushetram and the topic has gone somewhere else about identifying s’poreans and indians. When will this stupid difference end man?

Speaking about Gurushetram, it’s a remarkable effort by the crew. Come on, it’s Singapore’s 1st Tamil Movie! Being a minority we have achieved something big and classy :) We Indians must be proud of this achievement (Wherever these Indians belong to doesn’t matter).

And seriously, from my school days till now I have never seen a macho, 6-packed gangster in singapore. Why do u need 6-packs to become a gangster? So there’s reality in this movie, nothing is fake.

Let’s support our Local talents’ efforts :) Here we are talking about S’pore’s movie and not some other Australian, American or Bollywood movie. Hope that’s clear.

  20. Grace April 14, 2010 at 2:47 pm #

    Well said Meena! :)

  21. Budak Kampung Tak Tau English April 14, 2010 at 3:33 pm #

Meena : These stupid differences will end if human’s worldwide kill ppl like Pann and Callahan :D They are too noisy in world btw by poking their nonsense noses’ into something unrelated, like this :D

The reason why Callahan and Pann feels uncomfortable with hero in Gurushetram not being fit and 6-packed is because they are in the same category as well. Instead of having a 6-pack, Callahan has a family pack ( 1 big round tube stomach :P ) Pardon me Pann, I forgot about you here. I’ll write about your family pack in my Fb ya ;) :P

  22. Meena April 15, 2010 at 2:40 am #

Haha, Budak Kampung Tak Tau English, u r really very very funny.. Making me LOL at my comp screen..

Thanks for your compliment Grace :)
I like the way you show support to our Local Tamil Movie, by posting it in the internet.
    Good Job :)

I hope Gurushetram becomes a remarkable success :)

  23. Grace April 15, 2010 at 2:57 am #

Yeah I agree about Mr. BKTTE! He really can make everyone LOL.

And thanks for your compliments. :D

Hi, Everybody, I am back. I just found out that “Budak Kampung Tak Tau English”s’ real name is Anak Soondal…. Ha…Ha…

  26. Regular Reader of this website June 6, 2010 at 8:38 pm #

That was so lame Mr.CAllahan. I normally don’t comment on this website. I just read the posts and comments. However, your last comment made my blood boil. I am not here to scold you, but to make a request. Can you please act your age and not your shoe size? Thank you very much. I don’t know these people at all, neither do I know you. But the last attempt to make a snide remark, was totally lame and embarressing for YOU because YOU made me think you are a 5-YEAR-OLD kid. Now, i really do think you are Pann in disguise.

Hi guys….interesting to see what kind of a converstions a movie can trigger.

By the way, thanks for all the encouragement(I’m one of the actors in it).

It is very easy to criticise anything….but to imitate or outdo it, well, take the lead and show us how.

We have a long way to go as a community no matter how slow…but at least we should make sure we are going forward.

    Thank you.

  30. Mathi March 22, 2011 at 11:18 am #

Anyway, this movie is now running in Malaysian theatres. From 25th March 2011 it will be running all over Tamil Nadu.

Some people thought it was worth an international release.

    Thank you.

  31. Grace April 13, 2011 at 11:27 am #

Hi Mathi, thanks for the update there. You’re one of Vasantham’s most talented artists around, and it’s a pleasure having you here.

  32. KALAI September 21, 2011 at 11:24 pm #

Hi to the entire Gurushetram movie team. My honest opinion about this movie which i recently viewed is, it was fantastically made. Never have i watched a locally made ( Malaysian or Singaporean ) movie with that much of interest. It had good story line and was very naturally made. The actors did a really good job. It was as good as a movie made in india by the professional movie makers. Great job guys and my heartiest Congratulations to you. Please keep producing more of such movies. You guys really have a lot potential.
