Body Odour

3 Dec

When we begin to feel humid or sometimes after an exercise routine, almost our whole body starts to perspire. But why does the smell mainly come from the underarms, you may ask. That’s b’cos, perspiration in other regions of our body is mostly salty water, as compared to the proteins and oil present in the perspiration in our “sensitive” regions. (I.e. The armpits, genitals etc.) The proteins and oil leaves bacteria on the surface of your skin which breaks down the sweat and that releases the unpleasant smell lingering around, which is commonly known as ‘Body Odour.’

Not everyone who perspires smell the same, as B.O. is usually acts upon your lifestyle. Certain habits or food contains different kind of enzymes that are eliminated in the skin.

Body odour may be influenced by diet. Certain foods, such as curry, garlic and strong spices is normally associated with containing chemicals that may be excreted in the skin that ultimately causes you to smell bad.

It’s normal for everyone to smell bad after they reach their teenage-hood. It’s after puberty when sweat glands become active and develop under the stimulation of hormones and protein.

Now, this is the most important facts which everyone must know about Body Odour.

What happens if one day, you find out you actually have a very strong Body Odour that makes people around you uncomfortable?

Step 1

Be hygienic. Take proper showers every day. When I say proper, I mean use proper cleansers which work well to remove existing odours. Exfoliation helps too. Get a scrub or a loofah spongue to exfoliate your underarms. If you find that normal body-washes don’t do much for you, try using good anti-bacterial Body Washes like Dettol. The only setback for this is that these may be a little drying on the skin, but you can always apply some lotion on your skin afterwards.

Step 2

Purchase good deodorants or anti-perspirants. Any drug store brand should work good in controlling the unpleasant smell. If a normal one doesn’t do much for you, try mixing a normal roll-on with a spray. This should be very effective in eliminating the unpleasant smell which is excreted when you perspire.

Step 3

Make sure the clothes you wear are thoroughly cleansed. When I say cleansed, I don’t just mean washed. I mean, disinfected and deodarized. For most people with a strong B.O., washing isn’t efficient enough in getting rid of the smell. That’s when good brands like Febreze come into the picture. Or most Fabric Refreshers may do the trick. Using a perfume merely masks the smell and sometimes the combination of one’s odour with the perfume may make the smell even worse. So ensure that the smell is eliminated before you spray on your favourite perfume.

The above mentioned steps are usually enough to get rid of the embarrassment involved with Body Odour. In my opinion, this is not a disease as mentioned in other websites. Don’t scare yourself.

But if you still receive feedbacks that your smell lingers around, make a visit to the doctor. Not that you are sick, but you just need medical help to keep it under control. The next time someone honestly tells you that you smell bad and need to something about it, don’t hate them. Love them for being truthful as how you smell is an important way of presenting yourself infront of people. (Of course the people has to do it in a subtle manner. If they shout ‘HEY YOU STINK!!!’ infront of others, show them your middle toe and walk off. LOL)
